WILLIAM CRIPPS (1885 - 1939)

William was a very religious man, heavily involved in St.George's Church at
Battery Point, Hobart at around the time he died in 1939 and presumerably for
a time before that. In making his Will he bequeathed his entire estate to the
Church - much to the understandable dismay of his brothers and sisters. They
all had shares in and were partners in the family Bakery. The total value of
Williams personal estate came to £17,340 and £13,588 was paid out of this to
the Church.

This large amount of money had to be paid out of William's partnership share in
the Bakery, and brothers Thomas and George were very upset at Williams
disregard for the business finances.

The Church had an unexpectedly high figure for William's share of the
business, and the two brothers obtained legal advice, with the result of the
above sum being paid, but this nearly backrupted the business and both
Thomas and George did not receive their rightful wages for years, other than
enough to live on, until the debt was paid
